Joe Goode Performance Group: The Rambler

Joe Goode Performance Group:
The Rambler
“The frontier between dance and theatre is banished. The myth of the mainstream crumbles, and the canon is enriched by his witty and powerful spectacles.” – San Francisco Chronicle

Choreographer/writer/director Joe Goode gets to the core of our humanity, with classic humor and deeply felt storytelling about the lone cowboy-wanderer of American history. The Rambler is Goode’s newest foray into the American frontier and the mind of the solitary figure whose rootless existence becomes the stuff of legends. Described by the company as “Clint Eastwood meets Siddhartha,” the piece examines the essence of the restless American spirit through Goode’s trademark synthesis of dance, humor, text, and song. With an original score composed by Jesse Olsen Bay and scenic design by legendary puppeteer Basil Twist, Goode’s cowboy contemplation provokes the audience to identify the innate wanderer that resides in all of us.

Production support for The Rambler has been generously provided by The Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Puffin Foundation, The Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation and Zellerbach Family Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and San Francisco Arts Commission/Cultural Equity Grants. Additional funding for Joe Goode Performance Group is provided by Grants for the Arts, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and our generous individual donors – our Goode Friends.
